Chapter 7

“Sometimes the people you love the most, will turn their back on you… But that just becomes another lesson learned.

HARRIET

I feel so bad after everything was out in the open that I needed to get out of the house for some fresh air. I had come to the realization that I had one fucked up family. I mean, not my family on my mother or father’s side, since I don’t communicate with them, but my immediate family. My husband was cheating on me with a younger woman. One son of mine was loving a woman living a secret life, while the other one would rather make love to another man. My God! The drama was just too damn much to deal with.

The weather was calm. A breeze coming through the cracked window in my Cadillac CTS caused my hair to sway a little on my forehead. Once again, Vincent didn’t come home last night. He didn’t answer my calls or texts, so I had no clue when he was coming home. My mind wondered what Vincent was going to do next, considering that his son was not the man he thought he was and that his new lil’ boo was nothing that he imagined her to be. Players get played too.

My phone rang, slightly startling me. “Hello?” I answered by pushing the accept button on my steering wheel.

“Hi! This is Tiffany with First Tennessee Bank. I’m calling for Mrs. Harriet Smith,” she announced. Her tone wasn’t as customer friendly though, so I could tell this call wasn’t going to go well. Nevertheless, I pretended to sound a little enthused about her call.

“Oh yes! This is she. How can I help you?”

“Well, you recently reported your bank card lost or stolen. I was calling to follow up on your report.”

“Thank you for calling. Yes, I reported it stolen the other day,” I replied, slowly proceeding through the green traffic light.

“What was the last purchase you made with the card?”

“I was at the gas station I believe. I made a purchase of about $25.” After answering a series of identification questions and after confirming my address, she seemed ready to proceed with finalizing the call.

“Alright Mrs. Smith, what I have done is placed a block on your card. You will receive a new one within 7-10 business days in the mail.”

“Can you rush it? It’s my only card accessing my cash. I will need to make a few personal purchased before then.” I noticed a blue car tailing me after I spoke. It’s been making the same turns and I could be paranoid, but I felt like I was being followed.

“Ma’am, like I said, you will receive your card in the mail. If you want us to rush it, there will be a fee associated with your account.” I stared at the dashboard as if I were staring at the customer service representative. I chuckled off her statement, trying to keep myself calm.

“I’m sorry, what did you say your name was again? You must be having a bad day or something.
